BETTER Body Boot Camp (women's only)

Better Body Bootcamp is a women's only training program that will challenge you in a fun, dynamic and judgement-free environment that incorporates functional movement, coordination, agility drills, cardiovascular and resistance training, core strength development, postural awareness and flexibility education. The workouts are designed to suit all levels and can be adapted to meet your fitness level and goals at any stage of the program. This bootcamp incorporates bodyweight, tubing, hand weights, and more to create a unique program every time you attend.

 

All registrants will be invited to a private FaceBook group for accountability, lifestyle & fitness tips, nutrition advice, and more.

 

Due to COVID 19 guidelines, fitness equipment may need to be provided by the Bootcamp participants. Details will be explained in class and arrangements will be assisted by the instructor.

 

Instructor: Katie Ireland’s involvement in the world of fitness training spans two decades. As a competitive athlete and dedicated professional, Katie has focused on hard work, sharing her passion with others and always keeping in touch with the latest trends in fitness. Katie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Queen’s University.

Cardio-Strength-Core Blast

This class will give you the total body workout you are looking for. Forty minutes of cardio and strength intervals, followed by twenty minutes of core exercises.  You are guaranteed to improve your strength, muscle tone and flexibility.

 

Instructor: Christine Johnson. After years of taking fitness classes as a participant, and enjoying working as a public school teacher and principal, when Christine transitioned out of her first career as an educator, she chose to certify as a specialized fitness instructor for seniors.  It was such a natural 'fit'.   For the past five years, Christine has taught Cardio and Strength and Tone classes across the City's recreational facilities and with CAG at the Old Town Hall for the past four years.  She believes that the social connections are as important as the physical, mental and psychological benefits of participating in regular fitness classes.

ELDOA

In this class, you will re-align your spine and decompress the discs between each vertebrae! With practice and patience you can regain any height you may have loss over time, improve posture, and ease pain in your neck, back and hips. ELDOA is a French acronym which translates in English to LOAD’s (longitudinal osteo articular decompression). Postures are held for ~ one minute that target each segment of the spine. Join Pamela Forth in learning these great postures that can unlock the key to releasing the tension build up your body has held for years!

 

Instructor: Pamela Forth learned about the amazing benefits and results of ELDOA during her soma-therapy certification with world renowned Osteopath Guy Voyer.

VINYASA Flow Yoga

Re-connect with your mind and body in this active yoga practice.  Each class includes breath awareness, postures, and the linking of both. A variety of standing and seated postures, balancing poses, back bends, twists, and inversions will be linked to create a flow or “vinyasa.”  Good form and alignment is emphasized.

 

Instructor: Peter Kusovac was certified as a yoga instructor in 2003. He continues to train with Shiva Rea, Rodney Yee, Yogi Vishvketu and others and integrates these experiences in his teaching.

Yoga

HATHA Yoga

Balance mind and body with physical exercises or “asanas"; controlled breathing and the calming of the mind through relaxation. This class is suitable for both new enthusiasts as well as the more experienced. The postures and breath increase strength and flexibility, improve posture, reduce stress, and leave the participant feeling more youthful and energized. Building inner and outer strength while applying principles of alignment, this class allows students to stay safe and feel challenged, yet successful. In this yoga class, you will discover classic asana sequences, detailed instruction, and breathing and mindfulness techniques. The postures presented in this series are powerful, fluid and will help to safely and effectively enhance your strength, flexibility and balance.

YIN Yoga

Yin Yoga is known as “the practice of quiet power”.   All postures are practiced on the floor and are generally held for a long period of time, usually three to five minutes.  Props are used to support the body so as to release tension along with breath.  Students of yin experience an increased ability to calm the body and mind and a dramatic increase of flexibility when practiced with consistency. The deep relaxation that is often experienced in yin is very restorative and can lead to a greater sense of well being.

 

Instructor: Rebekka Cook came to yoga from being a gymnast as a child, flexibility was always part of her life. After being injured in her teens she was searching for something else and she found yoga was the perfect “fit”.  Rebekka believes yoga is something you take with you day to day, providing the tools (such as breath) to help ease emotional states. Her favorite type of yoga is Yin though that was not always the case. When she first started to practice felt she needed the physical movement because she was not ready to “face herself.” Eventually she found that once she stopped chasing her thoughts she was able to settle into her body and allow herself to relax and accept where she was in the present moment. Rebekka also teaches at PranaShanti Yoga Centre, Movati Athletic and Elevate Yoga.

BODY Sculpting by ESSENTRICS ®

A workout that draws on the flowing movements of tai chi which create health and balance, the strengthening theories behind ballet which create long, lean, flexible muscles and the healing principles of physiotherapy which create a pain free body. This is a full-body technique that works through the muscle chains, liberating and empowering the muscles, relieving them from tension in the process.

 

Instructor: Pam Forth is a well-known Pilates teacher in Ottawa having over 25 years of training in many different movement modalities. A lover of learning, most recently she was certified in Essentrics ™ created by Miranda Esmonde-White, a New York Times best seller author of Forever Painless well known for Classical Stretch and Aging Backwards that can be seen on PBS. As a former modern dancer she has found the Essentrics a wonderful way to move the body in a fluid motion while conditioning all the muscles in the body in a safe and gentle way.

PILATES

This class is for everybody - a class that either introduces you to Pilates or takes you further into your understanding of your own Pilates practice.  The first few classes will cover the fundamentals and highlight safety modifications for those with sore backs, necks or shoulders.  As the course continues, the more experienced clients will work on deepening their technique while the beginners continue to improve on their basic moves. No matter what your level you will experience a better workout and receive personal corrections to keep you moving towards your own perfectly developed balanced body.

 

Instructor: Pam Forth is a well-known Pilates teacher in Ottawa having over 25 years of training and experience in the fields of dance, Pilates, osteopathy, Yoga Tune-up © and soma-therapy.  Pam has over 18 years of teaching experience  top-level certification with world renowned Dianne Miller.  She opened her downtown studio in Ottawa, called FORTH PILATES, in 2001 which was very successful and allowed her to start a teacher’s training program that has certified many Pilates teachers in Ottawa and around the world. It is her passion for movement and dedication to continue the lifelong study of the human body that inspires and captivates so many of her clients.

ZUMBA

Ditch the workout and join the party! Come join us for Latin-inspired dance fitness classes that dancers and non-dancers alike can easily master. This cardio-based dance class incorporates easy to follow steps that anyone can learn. The workout will target legs, arms, core and butt, as well as the most important muscle in the body – your heart!

 

Instructor: Carolina (Caro) Izaguirre Campos. Caro’s passion for Zumba began in Florida where she took a class with Alberto ¨Beto¨ Perez and her love for it blossomed. Caro teaches Zumba and other fitness classes at various locations around the City. She is more than happy to be part of diverse organizations that promote health, fitness, and wellbeing and where, five days a week, she makes people have fun while exercising and learning her incredible Latino moves. Caro notes that: "My dad is Peruvian, and my mom is Colombian. You cannot be more Latino than that!” Her training philosophy is “do it for you and never quit!" Her advice to participants is: “Know your limitations, getting used to a new routine takes time, and be patient and kind to yourself.” Caro’s certifications include: Zumba (all formats), Group Fitness, Piloxing, Tabata, Drums Alive, Bootcamp, Aqua Fit, 50’s Strength Classes, and Latin Dance (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata).
