“Monument Wars and Public History: Saddle Up or Simmer Down?”

Reflections on contentious commemoration and the “monument wars”, with a talk by Dr. Dean F. Oliver. Dr. Oliver is the Director of Research and Chief Curator of the Canadian Museum of History, a member of the Historical Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, and an Adjunct Professor in History at Carleton University, as well as the former Director of Research at the Canadian War Museum. Dr. Oliver’s publications include Canvas of War: Painting the Canadian Experience, 1914 to 1945; and with Jack L. Granatstein, The Oxford Companion to Canadian Military History.
