The fourteenth annual Main Event saw community members and families gathered along Main Street for fun activities, BBQ and games this year in spite of some scaling back due to weather. Sadly the Stan Clark Swing Band could not perform in the rain, though we were treated to an impromptu solo trombone performance by Kevin Hassell. The inflatable bouncy and castle and obstacle course had to be cancelled as they will not operate once wet.
Those brave enough to come out in the at sometimes very heavy rain had a grand time making bracelets and learning about codes with Let’s Talk Science and our balloon twister provided balloon hats, dogs and swords at the CAG booth.
Our many sponsor and community booths also had a wonderful spread of activities, from helium balloons to wooden mask making to giant checkers. Mama’s Kitchen and the Community Association BBQ ensured everyone was kept well fed and happy throughout the event, and families were treated to a visit from the Ottawa Fire Department and Police Service – there was something for everyone at the Main Event.
As always, we could not hold this event without our fantastic crew of volunteers, this year a particularly special thank you to our transportation, set up and take down volunteers who helped us get everything ready in the pouring rain! The Main Event is brought to you by the Community Activities group of East Ottawa East but we could not do it without the generous support of our sponsors, some of whom came down and joined in the fun themselves! Thanks to the following businesses for helping us host such a great event:
Thank you also to our Silver Level Sponsors Kirk Law Office, McKeen Metro, LBR Training and 3 Trees, as well as to our generous contributors Gloria Fox and the Royal Oak on the Canal.
