The second Capital Spokes Bike Rally & Rodeo will run Friday, May 31st to Sunday, June 2nd, featuring tons of great activities for cycling fans in Old Ottawa East.
The event starts with dinner at the Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club (OTLBC) on the evening of the 31st, followed by a day of training for volunteer rally/rodeo leaders and free bike tune-ups for participants. On Sunday morning bikers will meet
at their community starting points and head for Windsor Park and the Capital Spokes
Rodeo. After the rodeo is lunch at the OTLBC.
Each community will decide its own cycle route, and the OOE route will be made available online soon. The Sunday morning rally begins at 9:00 a.m., with participants arriving at Windsor Park around 10:00 a.m.
There is no age limit for the event. Younger cyclists will have an opportunity to demonstrate some of their best riding skills in obstacle courses designed to teach them safe handling. Under the guidance of Safe Cycling Ottawa, the tennis
courts at Windsor Park will serve as fenced-in safety corrals to practice turns, bike
balance and hand signals.
All events are optional, except for the free training for volunteers on Saturday. While the dinner and lunch are not free--menu options vary in price--all other events and services, including bike and tire tune-ups on Saturday, are free.
